Cleveland Heights Ohio is expanding its lead abatement program in 2025 with a $400,000 investment from ARPA grant funds. The city is a leader in lead removal, handling a quarter of all Cuyahoga County's lead abatement cases in 2024. The new funding will provide $20,000 grants for homeowners and $12,000 for landlords to address lead in properties. The program will also expand eligibility to homeowners earning up to 120% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Additionally, $100,000 of the funds will be used for healthy home repairs, like improving indoor air quality and addressing lead-painted windows. The city’s efforts have been bolstered by the Cleveland Heights Lead Safe Ordinance, and the program has already seen increased participation, making a significant impact on the health of local children and families.
